Choosing 'P' instead makes it a playback‑only drive, and when a drive is set to 'T' for Transfer, Pro Tools can neither play from nor record to that drive directly: media must be Editors download dodgy audio files off the net then put them in the session. We also did not have any success using automatic duck. Normally, as in the screenshot, all the tracks in the Root Media Folder column should be set to the Session folder on your external drive — in my case, Work Disk

As it is now, you get odd behavior when importing tracks that are frozen even if all media related parameters are unchecked. I made a whole new session, imported my OMF's as "copy from source media" instead of "link to source media" and the problem was solved.

If it still fails, you can ask for an omf/aaf without embedded audio, to exceed the 2GB limit and recieve only 1 omf/aaf with clip-groups.
