I went in to the print spooler and it is not started and when i hit the start button it would not allow me to start it. I guess all the SPs that came for XP were all corrupt to begin with. this has just worked for me, if you have this problem, give this a try: on the windows cd, copy SPOOLSV.EXE to C:\WINDOWS\system32.

on the right side, look for print spooler, double left click on it, select start, close the system services window. I would reinstall the HP printer software and then uninstall it (hopefully getting a clean uninstall).
