I 12:33:08 Writing Sectors... The CD/DVD driver from Toshiba website fixed the problem. Both freeware and bloat-free (unlike that Nero fat cow that it has become) Also, mine doesn't write DVDs either. I 12:33:55 Writing Sectors... check over here
Probably it's the media, remember being able to burn Verbatim DL. I 12:33:38 Writing Sectors... The burner is a hp DVD RAM UJ897, while the media is a Sony D31 DVD+R. I always use the same media (Verbatim +R's) as well.

Try burning at lower speeds (Highly effective). I once had a LiteOn DVD writer I had to return immediately after I got it. Tried that. http://bsdupdates.com/power-calibration/power-calibration-error.php If sticking with BD-RE is the answer here then I suppose that's fine.
