Elysa,Sounds like the internal switch may be gummed up. If all the above doesn't work, try updating the firmware - I had this problem on my canon 1000D and apparently the 1.0.7 firmware update fixes this problem. The tape on the locking card slot worked great. Their machine couldn't read the card. have a peek at these guys

So yes indeed somehow the slide lock was on and when I moved it back to normal - whoo hoo the camara now works again. Are you sure the tab is on 'write enable'? ...
