I tried with the #3 technique and it worked! The culprit was the loose lens motor ribbon cable. I had to switch to video prior to tuning it off a few times before the lens reset. They should fix this for free.

i smeared some spray lube on the lens body and turned it on and off many times also without success. The lens would not retract I saw a bunch of fixes online that did not work.
